Well done to our colleague Terry, whose enthusiasm for progressive learning returns him to college!
I work in the rapidly changing world of technology, in which innovation and imagination are absolute necessities. If I’m not progressing, I’m standing still! Learning new skills opens doors and presents opportunities that I may not otherwise have known existed.
I have a love of learning and exploration. As Prof. Peter Drucker, a well-known thought-leader has stated “Knowledge has to be improved, challenged, and increased constantly, or it vanishes”. I share his sentiments and aspirations wholeheartedly. For me, progressive learning adds an extra dimension to my skill-sets. It broadens my horizon, providing me with the added confidence to deliver innovative and technology-driven projects to research partners and clients.
I have completed a BA in Information Technology, a Diploma in Training & Development and Post-graduate degree in Innovation Management. My thirst for knowledge is driven by a passion to stay on top of my game. My enthusiasm for innovation and drive for learning is motivated primarily by my background in elearning and experience in on-line educational learning management systems. These require the implementation and innovative technologies, effective strategies and novel methodologies, through the use of cutting-edge educational platforms.
This has provided the motivation for me to return, yet again, to further my education. I am privileged to be in a position to undertake these studies at the Cork Institute of Technology; an MA in E‐learning Design and Development.
Married with a young family and employed by Enovation as a senior eLearning consultant, this decision required some careful thought and consideration. It also needed the support of those around me – not least of all my family and my employer. Somewhat ironically, given my line of work, the dedication and commitment that this course requires is greatly facilitated by the strides that on-line education has made in recent years. The flexibility that eLearning has heralded, in contrast to the traditional bricks-and-mortar classroom learning, has provided me with the opportunity to develop skills whilst at the same time allowing me with the means to balance this with my workplace and family commitments. This, of course, is what draws others to eLearning too. eLearning is the most flexible education acquiring medium. It enables busy adult learners to earn degrees, improve job performance, and develop personal skills towards achieving their personal and professional goals in life. eLearning suits me for all these reasons. I chose to pursue my Masters degree through the internet because it provides a realistic balance between family, work and professional development, all of which are important to me.
I look forward to connecting with likeminded people throughout this course. The learning management system is a great way to meet like-minded individuals, learn from the experience of others and share ideas in a collaborative environment.
I hope to share on future posts some of the knowledge and experience I will have gained throughout this course. I am looking forward to it very much.
